On Memorial Day, I remember and appreciate men and women who’ve lost their lives while serving in the armed forces. I also think of and appreciate men and women who fight a different kind of battle, sacrificing their lives and pieces of themselves day after grueling, uncertain day in a different line of duty–as parents.
I spent nine months of my life experiencing what it means to be a single parent. It made me especially appreciative of the challenges faced by single parents everywhere. I was able to return home and no longer have to fight alone, but I won’t forget what those nine months were like.
If you know a single parent, rally around them. Don’t let them fight alone.
